For my next Sunday morning breakfast I wanted to make scones. I had some butter and eggs that needed to be used as well (specifically the butter: I had half a stick, which is one of my pet peeves). So I searched Pinterest, my hard copies, and the internet for a good recipe, finally deciding on some peanut butter chocolate chip scones.
And then I forgot to buy the sour cream that's on the ingredient list. And I couldn't use/make any of the substitutions that I found.
So I searched for a chocolate chip scones recipe and decided on a buttermilk scones recipe from Mel's Kitchen Cafe. While it didn't use the eggs that I had (which was OK because I worked overtime the following Saturday so I was able to make some cookie bars), it used up all the butter I had. Granted, this recipe called for cinnamon chips but it none of the other ingredients indicated that the scones would be affected by substituting chocolate chips. It also seemed pretty easy to make.

Mixed Berry Scones
When it comes to breakfast, I'm a waffle person. I even left my waffle iron out on my counter after making waffles last summer because of how frequently I've made a recipe from high school cooking class. But I haven't just stuck with waffles: there's a hack (if you want to call it that) for cooking a tube of cinnamon rolls (like Pillsbury) in a waffle iron. Since it was something I've wanted to try for a while I did that last fall. Once those ran out, though, I started looking for a non-waffle recipe. With Lent on the horizon I decided to look for something with berries. I focused on scones since my last attempt had been a failure and I wanted to try again. I eventually found Mixed Berry Scones on the Averie Cooks blog.

Triple Chocolate Scones
As usual, I gave up chocolate for Lent this year. It's actually kind of easy to give up but at the same time, hard. Over 40 days without my favorite flavor? Very possible (I do have alternatives) even though I still count down the days until Easter. So when I started looking for Sunday morning breakfast recipes (on Pinterest, as I've begun to completely forget my other resources), I focused on chocolate chip scones. Scones because I'd only ever made them twice (and once was with a mix) and chocolate chip because I still have leftover chocolate chips from holiday baking. I eventually found these Triple Chocolate Scones I had pinned. I think I screwed up while making them though.
